Pure formless ambient without any beats or melodies. A few harmonies, but not that many... Quite relaxing to work outside everything that is even remotely like pop. Will be an EP released on Kuf Records btw. Probably a combo thing, bandcamp for cheap and a expensive package in physical form if you order it from kufrec.com. So the release numbers for the fall is these:

KUF002 - Rasmus Nyåker - Let's face it, the square's gone (A compilation of 13 covers by artists and bands that have never heard the original recordings) LongPlay

KUF003 - The Mush Orchestra - Nowhere to be and all day to get there LongPlay

KUF004 - Fejld - Illiterate Poetry ExtendedPlay

Also working on maybe putting up a release with a guy that makes weird stuff under the name "BabySyphilis". Just make sure to start to execute it asap. The problem is that even the best idea will feel like any old shit after you've let it spin around in your head for sometime. And at that stage you won't do it. And you will never realize how good the idea was. The worst critic is almost always your first person especially in futurum. When you start to making an idea reality you will be forced to make lots of decisions, these decisions are the stuff that makes a good idea even greater. I came to the conclusion that what I most of all would love is to hear someone singing my tunes in the shower, but without me knowing. Something that is impossible. So my idea was transformed. How about making another album with exactly the same songs as my last one? (Well, I have had this idea for a while and am almost done remixing the tunes). But I don't wanna release a remix album anymore...

Instead... My idea is to get 13 bands, producers, etc., to record cover-versions of the tracks. But with a big twist - they will not be presented the original recordings before completing the task. They will only get a notation of the chords and the lyrics and are free to do whatever they want within these restrictions. The tunes will be made under Creative Commons (as the copyright matter on this thing is too complicated to deal with). The album will be a free download from bandcamp, soundcloud and kufrec.com. They will be available there until the 11th of March, 2011, from the moment the album is mastered. After the 11th of March, 2011, I will never again press or distribute this album and the people behind the cover are free to do whatever they want with the tune supplied. At the same date I will also delete the original album (the one the covers are based on) from all online sources and any places retailing it in CD form that I can manage to control. After this I will never again release another album using my own name and I will never sell or give away any music carrying my own name.

So if you feel like contributing to this cover-album, these are the criteria to fulfill:

1. You should not have heard any of the songs on my album "Back at Square One"
2. You will only get chords and lyrics for 1 tune
3. You will need to send me your cover via the internet within a week of getting the stuff mentioned above.

I will not interfere with your aesthetic decisions as long as some of the chords and lyrics are used in the track in some way. The track will, however, be mastered so the volume and frequency response match better across the album.

So if you feel up for the challange, drop me a line at info (at) kufrec.com, "Unheard cover" as subject.

If I get an answer from more than 13 artists I will choose the 13 at random, the same way I will randomly pick which song each of you get. Each track will be presented as "Rasmus Nyåker vs *your name/band/moniker* - *track name*".

Regards

Rasmus Nyåker
CPH Noise Labhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02342971902112176496noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5459489401652354035.post-52526191728229123452010-08-19T02:58:00.000-07:002010-08-19T02:59:07.669-07:00Fact 2Elvis is, and will remain DEAD!CPH Noise Labhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02342971902112176496noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5459489401652354035.post-31054481091285973962010-08-18T13:02:00.000-07:002010-08-18T13:05:41.287-07:00Fact 1Music is overrated.CPH Noise Labhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02342971902112176496noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5459489401652354035.post-78303552450305748272010-06-16T04:15:00.000-07:002010-06-16T04:23:06.818-07:00Dead Parakeet

I do continue to work on stuff for the upcoming album by "The Mush Orchestra". This tune is just another electronica number, a bit less ambient and a bit more pop. The video is just a few random shots of the subway here in Copenhagen. This song features non of the slicing techniques that I've been describing earlier on this blog. Actually it features no slicing at all whatsoever, I always try to work in different ways to keep from getting caught in creative circles.

In other news. The tune in the last post (Modus Operandi) has been reworked a bit adding another minute of music for being the soundtrack to a internal presentation for the Danish fashion label Rosemunde. The version below however is the one that will be on the album, although just a bit refined.CPH Noise Labhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02342971902112176496noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5459489401652354035.post-87372143520997641272010-06-11T07:12:00.000-07:002010-06-11T07:19:26.624-07:00Modus Operandi

Work, work, work... The last couple of weeks been busy. I managed to get 15 tracks done for a video-production company and have been working on the "Nowhere to be and all day to get there"-album by The Mush Orchestra. I have also redesigned the website for KUF Records and prepared a graphic profile for the noise lab. And as we are heading into summer I have taken up on the habit of reading novels.

Anyway, the thing I share today is a tune from the album I'm working on and a video from a recent trip I did to Amsterdam. The music is produced using some of the techniques mentioned here earlier. And BTW, it is my first ever youtube-clip!

I hope you'll enjoy it.CPH Noise Labhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02342971902112176496noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5459489401652354035.post-64955731929503446042010-05-06T05:35:00.000-07:002010-05-06T06:03:42.518-07:00Even more rhythmic FX<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 91px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivCB4yAWhVzLHc0Ptf66YdXojsZCmTvsIcWSDIRyqM39henoCdXJtz6969XG-dQ62-KKoN9b6Jit87XNDUDKCpF35AxdQtTR6zv54UQLY1ijMNJ43VC-kXEstqqWTGcGqlN4Yh_9XRiBg/s400/anh.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5468139768425393202" />

I am currently working on numberous things. One of them is a new version of the album "Back at Square One" (iTunes / Spotify). The new version will be named "Let's face it, the square's gone" and is a total overhaul of all 13 tracks. The one I'm working on now is called "A New Home" and is originally called "A Home" (iTunes / Spotify). This is the most popular track from the album according to websales and Spotify-statistics. So I wanted to make it different while still putting the story from the lyrics in the center.

Well, the original was a piano-piece with some cellos and lots of room for vocals. On the new version I dropped the piano, got some old beatbox-rhythm and a nice bassline on it. I also added some pads and noises - and finally the element that is so hard to get right - sampled digital-style choirs. I'm gonna show you two examples below of it.

First up is a progression on the track that features the raw sound of this choir in the mix:
(The choir is way up in amplitude compared to the final mix)

A new home - Unprocessed by Copenhagen Noise Lab

And here's the same progression but with some guitar-amp modelling and tremolo-FX on, it makes quite a big change to the track (IMO):
(The choir is way up in amplitude compared to the final mix)

A new home - Processed by Copenhagen Noise Lab

I hope you enjoy it. I sure love this track and I think the new arrangement gives it a whole new life.

(BTW, as some of you may have noticed I changed the top-image of this blog as I finally gotten time to design a logotype for CNL.)CPH Noise Labhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02342971902112176496noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5459489401652354035.post-46023807703089615142010-04-22T06:10:00.000-07:002010-04-22T08:05:16.552-07:00Shit in - Shit out?!<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 149px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpmIwmkNwTY2FV9j2M6Dut3v3EbaLPG0mbczOP3hDVonq2GSNljMtN4CHSlvz2kVhkMyhuLudTc4KYjW6pSYl2o-ia74wPzsltSMm6le5i1O7sTj7PwAIYVnCIB-m0sWXl7kFEkXMcME8/s400/gtslice.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5462948956606240994" />

I often find myself working in different ways. The other day I was lying on the couch with my girlfriend and noodled around on an acoustic guitar while she watched tv. I found an idea for a kind of "bossanova" chord structure and recorded it on a cheap field-recorder just to remember it. Anyway. When I started to work on it in the studio I started to sketch with the recording I had and managed to get it interesting enough to keep in the final tune. Eventhough the guitar-track I had sounded like crap I used some eq, delay and filter to cover it up. And after I sliced it up in Logic to put it in rhythm with everything else it started to sound rather nice.

The example below is first the guitar recording I had and then part of the song it is used in. The tune btw, is for the next album released under my own name "Rasmus Nyåker" and will feature some female vocals before it is done.

<object height="81" widthjavascript:void(0)="100%"> Guitar-CutUp-Example by Copenhagen Noise LabCPH Noise Labhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02342971902112176496noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5459489401652354035.post-27034493908150220052010-04-21T10:05:00.001-07:002010-04-21T10:17:27.678-07:00Rhythmic Processing<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 126px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRP3jwjh-l-c3iuYh6jGYnY7tTGkGosqsKo-TnfL6lrtLBAfsvbGRDY0u8R56L2E2rNm-HEDI3paIF0ajnXNY224TGodCCXPBdRQmfOB9Dhyphenhyphen5SfaHhGGsZxaGYvfq0tI7DGZla8Yoxhxc/s400/sl20.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5462639249582473586" />

Right now I'm working on a tune that is supposed to be the first track on an album called "Nowhere to be and all day to get there" under the name "The Mush Orchestra". It is quite a huge ambient piece as the first sketch arrangements are only of the first half and around 7-8 minutes. So the final tune will be around 16 minutes I guess...

Anyway. I had a hard time getting a piano-part to sit well with the rest of the tune so I felt it needed some processing. To keep the nice harmonics and dynamics intact I decided to slice up a reverb I had put on a AUX-send instead of processing the piano itself. So I used a 100% wet-signal and put it out through my Boss SL-20 stompbox. I could have used my Nord Modular G2 for the same task, but I like to play with dedicated boxes once in a while as it is easier to try out multiple settings fast. It worked out pretty good and I also added some ambience noises I recorded through an open window in the studio and on top of that a bassline I made with the Studio-Electronics ATC-1 and a beatbox loop made with the Elektron Machinedrum-UW. What you hear in this example is the piano in its original recording first and after 8 measures I let you see the result of this processing.

Enjoy!

Piano-ReverbSlicing-Example by Copenhagen Noise LabCPH Noise Labhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02342971902112176496noreply@blogger.com1
